admin answers:

I definitely recommend browsing the selection at Collage Video, a company specializing in exercise videos, where you can preview the videos they have in stock. Also, read the reviews at Collage, VideoFitness.com, and YourExerciseDVDs.com. You may also find the forum at VF helpful, too.

In order to get more suitable recommendations for you, could you provide some more information? Specifically, what experience do you have with yoga and Pilates? Do you consider yourself a beginner, someone with a little experience, intermediate, or advanced? What kind of pace do you like: slow, fast, or something in between? Do you like videos set indoors or outdoors? What kinds of instructors do you like? Any special physical or emotional needs? That would help us give you better recommendations that you’re more likely to be happy with.

If u want a smaller stomach you will need cardio exercise no way around it.. U need some form of cardio for 40 mins.. Atleast 35.. As first 20 mins u only burn carbs.. So u can try kickboxing, spinng classes.. You would need something of that sort 3 or 4 times per week.. U should also consider weight training.. A few times a week for 30 to 40 mins.. The more muscle u get the more fat u burn..and u need to train abs everyother day for 5 – 10 mins

Can snoring be a symptom for a cat and can it cause death?

Tabby is a female cat and is 11years old.My cat was overweight about 6 months ago. She was put on perscription diet food by the vet. She lost weight and was back to a healthy weight. She always had some kind of snoring problem or congestion in her nose. Recently, she passed away. Luckily I wasn’t there to see what happened. My brother saw it and said she might have had a heart attack and died instantly. Is there some kind of diagnosis or treatment that I could have prevented?…. I just cant get over it.

admin answers:

I seriously doubt she could have been treated for anything. Eleven years is an average life span for a cat.
But she could have had congestive heart failure if she snored or was congested.
Sometimes their gums and tongue turns blue and they breathe heavy for a while with that. It’s an elderly diagnosis for a cat.
I know I would have a very difficult time with the death of my kitties but rest assured you gave her a good home and loved her and that’s more than most cats get.

Oh, by the way, I have a female that snores and she’s not overweight at all. She has always snored and she’s only 4 yrs old. I think like people, some cats snore, some don’t.

What is the best stop snoring home remedy?

I have had problems my whole life with snoring, and was wondering if anyone had suggestions for the best stop snoring home remedy. It’s really been bothering me recently, and I want it to stop already! Any help would be appreciated.

admin answers:

You really should see your doctor and be tested for sleep apnea or nasal or throat polyps, or sinus troubles.

Some things to try at home:
1. The nasal strips (Breathe Right is a brand name). Those can help with snoring and for nasal congestion.
2. Don’t sleep on your back. My husband snores, but i’ve noticed it doesn’t happen if he is sleeping on his side. Prop with pillows to keep yourself from rolling onto your back.
3. Raise the head of your bed up on blocks.
4. Lose weight. If you have a thick neck, that will partially block your airway and cause snoring.
5. Get more rest. My hubby tends to snore when he is more tired than usual.
6. Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids. At night mucous membranes dry out and could lead to snoring.

And again, see your doctor to be checked.

How can you reduce snoring in your sleep?

My brother is sleeping right now and is snoring louder than a donkey. Recently he’s been asking me if he snores too loud, and I wonder if I snore as well. What causes snoring and how can you prevent it?

admin answers:

When you fall asleep the muscles in your mouth and throat relax. This causes snoring in some people when the muscles as the air passing through your nose cause the tissue in your nose and throat to vibrate.
Try sleeping on your side or stomach to get rid of the snoring. Sleeping on your back is usually the worst position for people who snore. If you still have a problem, you can try a “Breathe Right” strip over your nose, throat spray, a snore pillow, etc. Google those snoring remedies for more info if you can’t get rid of snoring.

“The King who cannot rule his diet, will hardly rule his realm in peace and quiet.”

“We never repent of having eaten too little.”

“To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art.”

“He that takes medicine and neglects diet, wastes the skill of the physician.”
- Chinese Proverb

“The wise man should consider that health is the greatest of human blessings. Let food be your medicine.”

“Those who think they have no time for healthy eating will sooner or later have to find time for illness.”

“What is food to one man may be fierce poison to others”
-

“When you fast… Your Father shall reward you openly.”
-

“Do you not yet understand, that whatsoever enters in at the mouth, goes into the belly, and is cast out into the sewer?”

“Be not anxious for what you shall eat,or what you shall drink… Or what you shall wear… Isn’t life more than food?… And the body more than clothing?”

“Daniel made up his mind he would not defile himself with the king’s meat and wine… Let us be given pulses to eat, and water to drink… At the end of ten days, their appearance was handsomer, and they were stronger, than all the youths who had been eating the king’s food.”

“Man does not live by bread alone…”

Quick weight loss diets?

Im wanting to lose some weight quite quickly and im looking for a simple straight forward diet to do for maximum a week and have some results. Im a very fussy eater, so diets have never really stuck with me as i dont like many foods! I was looking at the south beach fat flush as i thought it would be a straight forward few days of cranberry juice but theres also other foods involved. Do you have any quick weight loss plans you have tried and tested or that you know that work that dont take much longer than a week?

Since you’re such a picky eater, your best bet is to design your own meal plan. First, pick a calorie goal. It shouldn’t be less than 1000 calories a day, but if you really want to drop some pounds, go ahead and go lower.

Next, pick healthy, filling foods that you enjoy and make 4-6 meals/snacks out of them so that it all adds up to 1000 calories. Eat that each day, and take an hour long walk each day.

No special diet needed.

It’s most commendable that you want to work together to loose weight. That way you will each motivate the other.
Modify your diet; read the Nutrition Facts labels; eliminate junk food.
Go for walks, together. Start off with short walks such as just around the block, then extend by going around 2 or 3 blocks. Explore your neighborhood, on foot; reverse the direction of your walks for some variety.
Consider bicycling. It has minimal impact on the body’s joints; it increases your metabolism; and it extends your range of physical activity.

Is there any good weight loss plans for teens?

I’m 14, female, and I’m 5’4. I weigh 230 lbs. and I want to get at least to 195 before the end of August. Is there any good plans for teen weight loss?

admin answers:

Yeah, sure there are. The younger you are, the faster you lose weight. But don’t try fad diets, whatever you do. It’ll only make your condition worse.

You can start loading up on the protein, massively. You can get protein powder over at GNC or order online from GNC.com. The protein helps build your muscles, while also providing energy to burn fat.

But protein is half the battle. Exercising is the other half. While exercising, you will notice a little energy boost from the protein. Also, set short term goals for yourself (ex. I’ll run on the treadmill for 5 minutes), and try to reach those goals even though you feel tired. Then, if you’re working hard, you’ll see significant fat loss. You will also see that you start setting the short term goals harder than before, just for the heck of it.

Does anyone have any good meal plans for weight loss?

I need some meal plans/recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner that aren’t too expensive and not too complicated to make. I plan on combining these together during the day for a healthy weight loss plan. When it comes to meat, I only eat poultry, fish fillets and calamari. If you could please help me out, I’d greatly appreciate it!

admin answers:

I have the perfect diet plan for you but before I jump on to the meal schedule i will tell you a quick tip first. It is scientifically proven that if you eat 5-6 meals a day rather than your regular 3 meals, you will burn almost twice more fat. This is because when you consume a meal the body is designed to absorb all nutrients and contents(first the vitamins, then mineral, and finally fats and sugars) from that meal UNTIL you consume another meal. So if you eat 1 meal, wait 3 hours, then eat another meal, your body wont absorb as many fats and sugars as compared to 1 meal, wait 5-6hours, 2nd meal. I hope this made sense.

Below is the daily schedule diet:

Meal 1(Breakfast): 2 egg whites, 1 cup of cooked oatmeal
Meal 2(Snack): Fruit or Nuts
Meal 3(Lunch): Tossed Salad with 4oz Chicken strips
Meal 4(Snack): Fruit or Nuts
Meal 5(Dinner): Grilled fish with boiled spinach

Follow this diet everyday. Eat each meal within 2 1/2-3 hours in between. No meals after 9pm.
*Note: This was just an example of meals that you can eat, you can change each food category with another meal of the same category(i.e for your dinner you can substitute any other white meat such as chicken or turkey instead of the fish and for the boiled spinach any other vegetable will do)
Hope this helped!

Are there any weight-loss plans that are designed for those of us who work the swing shift?

Each & every one that I’ve seen or tried seems to be designed for those fortunate folks that work 9-5 Monday thru Friday & off on the weekends. I’ve worked swing shift for the last 22 years & out “smart” employers have even been changing the way we work for the last 2 years. Right now, I’m working 8 hours a day, 6 days a week with only Sunday off. I work one week on 1st, the next on 2nd, then the next on 3rd. Then it starts over again. We were working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, with one day off in the middle of 1st & 3rd, then getting a long weekend, (5 days), every 3 three weeks. Tnere has been talk that they want to put us back on the 12-hour schedule.
It’s really hard to follow a weight-loss plan working the way that I do. Even after all these years, I still don’t know when to sleep or eat. I don’t sleep well, except when I’m off & then I sleep my day off away. I can’t quit my job because there aren’t any more jobs here that pay what I make. They’ve all gone south. HELP!

admin answers:

Even if you feel you do not have a “regular schedule” to follow, it is possible to achieve weight-loss, especially if you really are dedicated, and you have good motivations.

The best diet motivation is knowing that you will have better health. But of course, feeling better also comes with looking better. You will be more healthy, you will have more energy, and you will be more confident.

It is very easy to achieve your goal. Giving a little effort and spending a little would assure you of real safe and effective diet. A low-carb, low fat, high-fiber diet is the best diet if you do not require tons of energy for work (for example, simple office work does not require a lot of energy). This is a sample menu, about 1200 calories the whole day. You will not spend a lot, and you will not feel hunger.

Breakfast:
1 pc toast / sliced bread
1 pc banana or apple
1 glass of milk
tea or coffee with low cal sweetener (or sugar)

10 am snack:
1 banana or apple OR
10 pcs of berries OR
1 cup popcorn
1 glass lemonade or juice

lunch:
open sandwich (no bread on top) containing:
1 slice of smoked ham (about 60 grams)
tomatoes, lettuce, onion
1 glass juice/lemonade/tea

4pm snack:
3 pcs of oreo cookies OR
1 palmful peanuts OR
any medium sized fruit

dinner:
1 100-gram cut of lean meat (if chicken, no skin)
1 1/2 golfball size serving mashed potato or pasta
up to 2 cups of green veggies or steamed carrots and peas
dessert: any medium fruit OR
1 golfball size of low fat ice cream or sorbet
1 cup of coffee or tea

you can do variations of this sample plan. Very low cost (not totally no cost ofcourse), low maintenance. You will not feel any hunger at any time of the day. The best thing is, these foods are definitely available in your own house, probably also the things you eat daily. And you will not deprive yourself so binging and mood swings will be avoided.

Throw in some exercise while you’re at it: jogging, weightlifting for muscle development, pilates for flexibility (there are websites that show some basic pilates moves), powerwalking for stamina building. Even regular day to day activities help – walking to the bus station, bicycling to the supermarket, mopping the floor, you can even do some jogging in-place while watching TV. Remember that a well balanced diet and regular exercise is still the best. Not only will you be kept trim, you will also stay healthy.

Remember that there are no quick-fix diets and exercises. Starving yourself and pushing yourself to extreme exhaustion would only lead to even more dangers, and a higher medical cost. The best way to achieve your goal and to get a healthier body is to incorporate a well balanced diet and enough exercise in your daily life.

Any good weight loss plans that actually work?

What are some great diets/exercising plans that actually work and help you lose weight fast?

admin answers:

There are several dietary changes you can make that should have you seeing results right away:

*Cut out all processed, refined white flour products (breads, crackers, pastas, etc.) and replace them with whole grain versions (“whole grain” should be the first item on the ingredients list)
*Drop the overprocessed junk foods – including chips, candy, cookies, soda, etc. Replace them with healthy snacks like fresh fruit or small portions of nuts
*Eat only when you’re truly hungry and listen to your body while you’re eating so that you don’t overeat
*There’s also some surprising new research about how the human body isn’t designed to process dairy and animal proteins. If you have the willpower, sticking with a healthy vegan diet that’s heavy on the beans and plant-based proteins is a great way to lose weight quickly.

As for exercise, the best type of exercise is one that you can stick with. I absolutely hate running on the treadmill, but put me in an hour and a half long hip hop dance class and I’ll push myself until I can’t move anymore. Find something that you enjoy and you won’t have any trouble forcing yourself to go every day.

However, it’s not uncommon for women to have trouble losing weight with just diet and exercise alone. The body is more than just a calculator – meaning that there’s more that goes into losing weight than just calories in versus calories out through exercise. If you’re having trouble losing weight, you might want to check with your doctor – there may be an underlying condition like hypothyroidism that’s preventing you from losing weight. I’m also a huge fan of natural, plant-based supplements that help boost energy and metabolism. Just check with your doctor before you start taking anything new – especially if you’re already on any prescription medications.

Hope this helps!

I have been running lately, and recently my knee has been sore, so I am wanting to do something with lower impact. I am thinking about yoga. Anyone have any good ideas for me? Also, I am only looking for about 1/2 hour workouts at a time. And does Yoga really make you lose weight?
Yoga is a calming low intense toning workout,as opposed to weight lifting which is a high intensity toning workout…yoga,or hatha yoga as its known as,reprograms your blood circulation and helps the body to de-stress…you can do it daily as often as possible…when combined with a cardio routine like walking,it can become a powerful fat loss tool…i would strongly insist you take flaxseed oil pills to cure your sore knee…brisk walking itself is powerful enough to giv your body a good cardio…you dont hav 2 run…but dont forget that its no use working out if you dont portion control and calorie shift your food intake….god bless u

admin answers:

Yoga refers to traditional physical and mental disciplines originating in India. The word is associated with meditative practices in both Buddhism and Hinduism. In Hinduism, it also refers to one of the six orthodox (āstika) schools of Hindu philosophy, and to the goal toward which that school directs its practices.

Major branches of yoga include Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Hatha Yoga. Raja Yoga, compiled in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and known simply as yoga in the context of Hindu philosophy, is part of the Samkhya tradition. Many other Hindu texts discuss aspects of yoga, including Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the Shiva Samhita and various Tantras.

The Sanskrit word yoga has many meanings, and is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj, meaning “to control”, “to yoke” or “to unite”. Translations include “joining”, “uniting”, “union”, “conjunction”, and “means”. Outside India, the term yoga is typically associated with Hatha Yoga and its asanas (postures) or as a form of exercise. An accomplished practitioner of Yoga is called a Yogi (gender neutral) or Yogini (feminine form).

I have been doing the YRG Workout which is yoga based and they added in other exercise movements to build your core. What is really cool is that they have a free site where you can blog, ask questions and share your fitness story. I can’t believe it is free and they don’t try to sell you anything…what a concept. The website is www.YRGUniverse.com

There are 2 types of snoring one is an even breathing that is consistent, the other is sleep apnea where the person stops breathing then gasps for air.if it’s the second type she should have a sleep study done and the doctor will need to help.for regular snoring get your self some ear plugs(the white cylinder shapes ones) so it doesn’t drive you nuts. For her teach her to lie on her side, maybe try different aides and see what works best.go to the pharmacy ask the pharmacist, there will be choices.

admin answers:

Hi rachealism,

Using a yoga mat during your practice is really a personal preference. The mat provides a cushioned, grippy surface to practice on, as well as a sanitary barrier between yourself and the floor, but many choose to practice without a mat. Personally, if I’m practicing outside on the grass , I don’t like to use a mat. If I’m practicing in a studio with a slippery floor, I prefer a mat because I feel more stable in my poses. It’s all about what feels best for you in your practice!

admin answers:

No, this isn’t based on energy stores in the muscles, it is based on raising insulin for fat stores.

You would be better off with low to moderate GI foods that trigger lean muscle gain rather than high GI which triggers insulin and causes fat stores.

If you focus on high GI, you’ll be a fat guy gaining muscle but staying fat around your gut and wondering why your not losing the fat.

Don’t make that mistake by eating high GI, unless you want to be a Sumo Wrestler, which is what they concentrate on… High GI.

why do people get pissed off at me for eating healthy?

i’m really picky about what i eat because i need to be healthy!
i have a history of stroke and heartattack in my family, and i don’t want to drop dead at 48 like my dad. so i try my best to eat really healthy. and on top of that, not only does it make me healthier, but i also look great!

but everyone is always saying “oh you can probably eat whatever you want, you look great” but they always say it in a mean way, not in a nice way. and you know what? i “look great” because i eat healthy! so no i can’t eat whatever i want, if i did, then i really wouldn’t look so great. and i would probably have other health problems as well.

but i find that it really pisses people off and people make rude comments about it.. like “oh i can’t constrict what i eat, i gotta live my life” well guess what, my dad didn’t restrict what he ate and he died at a really young age and now he’ll never meet his grand kids and he’ll never see me get married and he’ll never know that i graduated from university and got a great job. he’ll never be there for anything.

so what is wrong with everyone making stupid comments? if i ate mcdonalds everyday, would people still make all those dumb comments? for example, some girl just posted this question, but everyone just fired at her, told her off and left her really rude comments. people were telling her off for making Health Conscious decisions! I do let myself cheat once a week with cupcakes and cookies, sometimes more, but for the most part, yeah i’m very picky about what i eat.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…

i found their comments to be really offensive, and i don’t know why people get so mad at others for making health conscious decisions!
i never make comments to anyone about what they eat. unless if it’s someone close to me like my brother or sister. it just comes up because my friends like to eat out a lot and i really can’t do that with them all the time…

Eating healthy is a great trait which requires discipline and self control. Its hard to do that. I know because I got addicted to junk after living in US and I cant seem to get back to etaing healthy. I am trying though and hope I will succeed soon.

Is eating at Chipotle healthy?

A friend and I had an argument over this topic. He states that no matter what you get at Chipotle you are not eating healthy. I firmly disagree with his stance. I was just wondering if, what I order at Chipotle is healthy. I order a burrito bowl with:
1. Rice
2. Pinto beans
3. Any of the meats but only one.
a. Chicken
b. Steak
c. Pork
d. Beef
3. Picco de Gallo(tomatoes, onions and something else not sure.)
4 Corn Salsa
5. Lettuce
I also get a diet drink if I eat there.

Please if you can tell me if that is healthy or not. I found this website that stated my meal is only 545 calories but I am not sure of this website credibility. http://www.chipotlefan.com/index.php?id=nutrition_calculator. Thanks in advance and have a good day.

admin answers:

It depends on what you get. Chipotle can be a fairly healthy restaurant, so long as you avoid the white rice, the chips, and the tortillas. You don’t have to stop going to Chipotle, but if you want to improve your health, leave the rice out of your burrito bowl next time, and get water instead of diet soda.

Chipotle provides its nutritional information on its website*.

There is no magic pill. You need to combine a healthy diet with exercise. If you have three months there is plenty of time to slim up if you can stick to it. Here’s a web site where you can check your ideal weight and bmi. You will also find a few tips there and diet plans that I used to lose 45 lbs and keep it off.
Be wary of any “quick fixes”. Most don’t work, or we would all know about them. If you want to appear slim under your dress, look for a body slimmer. It’s like a glove for your body to pull everything in just a little to give you a slim look. I did a quick search and found a site explaining them.

My husband surprised me with a vacation 2 weeks from now…I need a quick fix weight loss supplement..?

I’ve been on a diet, but haven’t been taking any kind of supplement. I’ve lost 5 pounds so far, but would like to lose more by the time of the vacation. Is there a quick fix weight loss supplement that would work for me? I want to lose about 10 more pounds, drop a few sizes. If it wasn’t for the vacation, I wouldn’t be wanting to take anything, but I’ll be wearing a swimsuit and I want to look good.
I forgot to say, I’m not obese, just slightly overweight and would like to look more like the way I did before I had my daughter. I’m in a size 5 right now and used to be a size 1.

I have a couple of water bottles next to the couch.. Each time I sit on the couch I pick them up and lift them up and down.
It is boring and it seems useless to do but if you get used to do it,., after just 20 minutes you will start sweating and your arm will get tired.
Just change arm and carry on, eventually it will become automatic and you might even want to progress to some dumbells, maybe a little bit heavier than the water bottle.

Why are we (in general) in such a quick fix for weight loss instead of good old fashioned exercise?

I think fitness (with the exceptions of diseases and/or illnesses, or medications for both) is a lifestyle. Some are blessed with good genetics while others have to work harder at it. Regardless, if you want your internal systems to work and your external systems to reflect the same, exercise is the only way. There are exceptions to the rule where surgery may be needed for relief of pressure on internal and external systems, but you will never develop your internal systems (cardio-vascular, skeleto-muscular) or your external systems (physique) without putting in some hard work and eating discipline. There is no easy way…

admin answers:

Because we all want an “Easy Button” in life. Exercise is time-consuming and hard work that most people view as a burdon, not a blessing. “We” take the path of least resistance and consumerism makes “us” believe that that we can take a pill and everything will be all better.
